Items We Love

We get asked A LOT by our puppy buyers and our followers where they can get some of our favorite items.  Things from our whelping supplies to the gear we use everyday for our paussie.  Here you can find links to those products!

Puppy Must Haves

Here are some of the items we encourage new puppy owners to purchase in advance of their pups arrival. Click on the photo for a direct Amazon link.

Flea & Tick Preventatives

We are asked A LOT about how we prevent from flea infestations and Ticks and out approach is a multi-tiered attempt at combating them.  Ticks are becoming more and more prevalent in Vermont with them adapting to the cold months, so the problem is a challenge more now than ever before. The following items are used in conjunction with each other and so far, have shown good results!

Puppy Containment

Puppy Pen 1.jpg

For the first year I strongly encourage the use of a crate in conjunction to a pen!  This will save your home for unwanted puppy chewing sessions on your furniture or trim board as well as potty accidents!  We first invested in this pen years ago for our yorkie to contain her while we were away at work all day.  Since then, we have used this containment for all of our dogs while we are away and even while we are home. It is a fantastic tool to use to keep your pet close by and able to move while ensuring they stay out of trouble if you can't keep your eye on them the entire time. I strongly encourage investing in one of these. It's so versatile and stores easily when not needed.

Crate.jpg

I have many crates, in many sizes, made by many companies, but my favorite is MidWest.  I suggest the 36" size with a divider so they can grow with the crate, and I prefer the double doors. This crate is super sturdy and is incredibly easy to set up and tear down. It comes with a plastic handle that you can attach to the crate when it's folded up for easier transport and it also comes with a divider that you can use to make the crate bigger/smaller in size (on the inside) as your puppy grows throughout crate training. .

This is the containment pen we use in our litter palace.  We actually use two sets of this pen together with the Midwest 48inch crate to create a comfortable and save environment for the pups to grown in. I love the sizing flexibility this pen offers along with the durability. It's an excellent product, but certainly more geared towards breeders use.

Meals & Treats

Purina Puppy Food.jpg

When we send you home with our new baby, you will be equipped with a small container of the food the pups have been eating, Purina Pro Plan Puppy Chicken and Rice.  I would encourage you to continue to feed this to your pup and graduate them to the adult variations at the correct time.

Purina Dog Food.jpg

Should you choose to stay with the Purina family of products, this is the variety we feed our adults.  Purina Pro Plan has worked great for us, providing shiny coats, healthy poops, and all around sound health. There are a number of varieties, but we prefer the Salmon & Rice Formula which is high in essential fatty acids, EPA and DHA Omega-3s, to maintain your dog’s healthy skin and shiny coat, along with their cognitive health.

Salmon Oil.jpg

For dogs over 10lbs we encourage the use of this supplemental Salmon Oil in foods that do not already contain the supplement.  It promotes increased cognitive health, and helps to maintain healthy skin and a softer, shinier coat.  IT is also great for bone growth and join structure.

Dog Treats 1.jpg

We always send out babies to their new homes with these treats.  A wholesome favorite of our dogs, and they come in a variety of flavors.  Keeping a stock on hand is very helpful in the training process!

Treat dispenser.JPG

Treat Your Pet Remotely: Bites 2 Lite has a treat dispenser with 1.5 lbs container that allows you to toss dry, crunchy dog treats short, medium, or long distance, or schedule automatic treat dispensing via the free app.

Dog Treats 2.jpg

This is another product we use in our home with our babies for training and rewards.  It fits nicely in a training pouch, and the bacon flavor is very desirable.

Dog Treats 3.jpg

This is our most prized treat offering.  The girls drool for Greenies and it helps to promote oral health.  I prefer the "teenie" size to keep the calories down, but they come in a few different sizes.

We have struggled a bit with car sickness in Reese.  Although she loves her rides, the rides do not love her.  These treats are all natural and help to settle her tummy in advance of her excursion.  Also useful in high anxiety situations too!

Hygiene

Aussies have a double coat which requires some moderate level of care.  A good brushing every month is recommended, but in the spring and the fall expect to increase this to once a week to help with the shedding.  We have two favorites - routine brushing we use the KylePet Dog Brush and for their spring and fall blowouts, we use the Furminator De-Shedding Tool

As noted above, Aussies have a double coat and require specific care.  As a puppy, you can use baby soap to bathe your pup, but as they grow and lose that puffy fluff, you should switch to a shampoo specific to their adult coat.  I would suggest using Bio Groom Extra Body

You'll quickly find that puppy nails can scratch, so it's good to start right away in clipping their nails.  The first few weeks you can get away with some heavy duty toenail clippers, but in time you will want to invest in dog clippers and keep them trimmed twice a month.  Any dog trimmer will do, however we also like to use a Dremel which makes the job so much easier.

Toys, Beds, and Other Stuff

Providing a bed for your pup encourages them to seek quiet time as well as self-entertainment. Look for the beds that have a washable cover, so much easier to keep clean and they last longer than others. Here are a couple we like:

Toy 1.jpg

Chewing on bone toys is great for puppies - chewing is good for your puppy’s teeth; can alleviate boredom; and can satisfy your puppy’s instinctual urge to chew!  We also love to give them moose antlers - you can get these from a local taxidermy shop.

Toy 2.jpg

Puppies really love to play, and unless you want your puppy chewing everything in the house, provide toys that your puppy will learn are OK to go crazy with.  We have found toys with no stuffing are best and those that crinkle are favorites ;)  Cheep is always good... we keep a basket filled with dog toys, over time they learn where their toy box is and are very content with the option offered.

Dogs are pack animals, they are accustomed to group life and group activities. In the case of being separated from their peers, it is very likely that they will be disturbed and anxious, which will cause them to cry, bark, bite and other disturbed behaviors. These toys relieve your pup's various unease by simulating the companionship scene, which is realized by a comfort toy and a vibration simulator (simulating the sound of a heartbeat).

Some dogs eat their meals at lightning speed, which can cause issues such as choking, vomiting, and even potentially fatal gastric dilation (also known as bloat). If you only have to blink to miss your canine companion wolfing down their food, consider buying a slow feed dog bowl to steady their pace.

Litter Rearing

Below are all the items we use for rearing our pups.  Check out our social media pages for reels around our set ups to see how we use them!

The Whelping Box

Whelping Box.jpg

This is by far our whelping box of choice!  It is easy to assemble and simple to clean.  The puppy rail is great for newborn safety and the overall size is just right for and Aussie Momma and her pups.  We suggest purchasing a couple extra pads to use while washing the one that comes with the box. Pads are not slippery, providing good footing for newborns. Click the link above to purchase!

These pads are necessary for use in your EZ Whelp box.  There are plenty of knockoffs, but from our experience, these pads are far superior. Buy a couple extra to have spares available on wash days.  Word of advice, let air dry! Click the photo above to purchase.

Camera.jpg

Our puppy cam... I have had others in the past, but this one is likely my favorite.  It captures Super HD videos in the resolution of 2304x1296 (3 megapixels), and with infrared LEDs, it can see in the dark. You can remotely see live-streaming via the free Reolink application on your cell phone. And it has a built-in mic and speake so you can hear and speak through the pup cam to Momma & Babies
